Barracuda Bridge Utility Replacement Project

Project Status

UC Project Manager:  Dana Hale

Contractor: Y-COM

Start Date: December 2021

Projected Completion: August 2022

Project Area: Work extends along Quay Assisi, North Causeway and South Riverside Drive

Project Impacts:  This project encompasses improvements to the infrastructure for three utilities - water, wasterwater, and electric services. The bridge on Barracuda Blvd. is being replaced by Florida Department of Transporation (FDOT), thus requiring UCNSB and other agencies to remove utility attachments to the bridge.  As part of this $2.4 million project, UCNSB has opted to make system infrastructure improvements in the area, including an upgrade of Lift Station #9, replacing aged water main pipes, replacing pipe crossings along the North Causeway with directional drilled conduit, and relocating overhead electric assets. Additionally, customers should be aware that traffic delays are expected in the project area, and if there is any impact to utility services, customers will be notified by the contractor 48 hours in advance.

April 26: Lift Station No. 9 has commenced today.  The station is located at the NW corner of Barracuda & Quay Assisi, just north of the MDC main entrance.  Demolition and bypass set-up will begin within the next 10 business days.  The lift station work will be continuous for the next few months.  The electric work on Quay Assisi will commence on May 2, 2022.  This is expected to take 3 weeks to complete.  No work in the Venezia neighborhood will begin until utilities are removed from the bridge.  Look for information on variable message boards.
